PAYING FOR SCHOOL MEALS
Thank you to all parents who have activated their ParentPay accounts to pay for school meals.
Pupils can also pay with a debit or pre-paid card at the till (please note, the minimum spend on card is £1.00).
However, we have a number of students coming into school with no funds to pay for their school meal. We are careful to try to avoid any embarrassment at the till for any pupils who have no funds on their account, but we advise you check each day, or remind them not to try to purchase a meal if they do not have any funds available. While we have tried to support students, who find they have no funds at the point of purchase, we will not be able to continue to provide meals free of charge to students who are not eligible for free school meals.
Parents have asked us not to serve students who do not have any funds on their accounts to avoid building up debt, so please be aware that if there are no funds on your child's account, they will need to bring a packed lunch from home.
If you have not yet activated your ParentPay account, please can we ask that you do so at your earliest convenience. All parents need to activate their accounts whether they pay for school meals or whether they are eligible for free school meals. You can activate your account, and check your account balance, at www.parentpay.com
For those students eligible for free school meals, an allowance is added to their account every day. This is the total daily allowance for all purchases and is available to spend at break-time or lunchtime. We suggest students leave their allowance to spend at lunchtime. The allowance will enable students to purchase a hot meal with vegetables and a pudding or any number of other Meal Deal offers available. If parents wish, they can add additional funds to their ParentPay account to be spent at break-time.
If you have not yet activated your account and require a ParentPay activation code, please email parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk with your child’s name and school.
Yours sincerely,
Catering Services
North Tyneside Council
Parent Pay - cashless payments at Norham High School
It is extremely important that all parents/carers activate their account for each child that attends Norham High School.
ParentPay is used for pupils to access meals and snacks at break and lunch time.
If your child is free school meals it is again important that this account is still activated by yourself.
Using ParentPay
Safe: no cash handling
Secure: Set up payments online to pay for meals
Peace of mind: Manage your account and see when meals have been taken and how much your child has spent
Faster: Reduces queues with faster transactions at the till
No identification of pupils on free school meal
How to pay for school meals
Automatic top-up payments
Auto top-up assists parents and carers in ensuring their child’s school meal balance is
always in credit. It does so by allowing you to set a minimum balance which, when breached
automatically credits your child’s meal balance by a fixed amount using a balance transfer
payment.
In order to use auto top-up, you are required to set up the bank transfer facility on your
Parentpay account. As soon as this is authorised and completed by your bank, you will be
able to use the auto top-up facility. Please see the ParentPay website for more information.
If you require activation details or a QR code or Pin Number, please email parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk
ParentPay and free school meals allowance (FSM)
If your child is eligible for free school meals, their account is credited with a set amount each day they are in school. Purchases over this set amount are not covered by the free school meal allowance but will still come off the account balance.
Parents should always check ParentPay on a regular basis to ensure your account is in credit and that you know how much is being spent each day.
Card payments
Students can either pay using ParentPay account or use their own debit card to make purchases at the till at morning break and lunch time. They can use their card to pay contactless or chip & pin on a Barclaycard card reader.
Purchases by debit card , direct at the tills onsite, will not appear on your ParentPay account.
