What is Thrive?
The Thrive Approach is a well-established framework designed to support children's emotional and mental well-being. It focuses on understanding the emotional needs of each child and helping them build the skills and resilience they need to thrive in school and life. Using a combination of targeted activities and support, the Thrive Approach aims to nurture social and emotional development, addressing any barriers to learning or personal growth. This approach is tailored to meet individual needs, fostering a sense of safety, confidence, and self-esteem. Our trained Thrive Practitioners work closely with students to ensure they feel supported and understood, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Why have a Thrive Intervention room?
Having a Thrive Room offers numerous benefits for students' emotional and mental wellbeing. Here are some key advantages:
Emotional Support
The Thrive Room provides a safe, calm space where students can manage their emotions, reducing stress, anxiety, and emotional outbursts. This support helps children feel secure and understood.
Individualised Care
Students who may struggle with their emotional development can receive tailored interventions that meet their specific needs. This individualised approach helps them build essential emotional and social skills.
Improved Wellbeing
By focusing on social and emotional growth, the Thrive Room helps students develop resilience, confidence and self-esteem, which are crucial for academic success and personal development.
Enhanced Learning: Students who receive emotional support are better able to engage with their learning. By addressing emotional barriers, the Thrive Room enables pupils to focus and participate fully in school life.
Prevention and Early Intervention: The Thrive approach allows for early identification of emotional or behavioural issues, helping to prevent them from escalating and ensuring that students receive the right support at the right time.
Mental Health Champions
Our Mental Health Champions are students in Years 8 to 10 who have received specialised training from our Thrive Practitioners, in addition to support from Connect Mental Health. They play a vital role within our school to act as a supportive peer for fellow students, raise awareness about mental health and help reduce stigma.
We know that children and young people may face additional barriers to
their education including mental health concerns, and we want to ensure
that all young people have support and that their families, schools and
other professionals are able to provide the right support.
The Connect Mental Health Support Team works with 40 local schools to
deliver low and moderate intensity interventions to support pupils with low
mood, anxiety, and poor self-esteem.
By working with our communities, schools, parents and carers and young
people the service aims to encourage early treatment and prevention to
decrease the number of children and young people requiring long term
mental health support. This is done by providing information, advice,
guidance, and support.
The team supports schools to develop their whole school approach to
emotional wellbeing and signposts to other relevant services to ensure the
needs of children and young people are met in a timely way.
