Y9 Options Evening - Wednesday 4th March
At Norham High School, we love celebrating success in all its forms, from academic excellence and creative flair to teamwork, resilience, leadership and kindness. Our pupils continue to impress us every single day with their hard work, imagination, and determination to be their very best.
Each week, staff nominate pupils who have produced exceptional work. Pupils receive a WOW Wednesday postcard and an entry into our prize draw. It’s always a highlight of the week as we recognise the fantastic achievements happening across our classrooms and beyond.
We are so proud of the dedication, curiosity and positive attitudes our pupils show in their learning. Whether it’s a brilliant piece of writing, a creative art project, impressive problem-solving in maths, thoughtful contributions in discussions or showing great perseverance, every success deserves to be celebrated.

Our school community marked the occasion in style, enjoying delicious fortune cookies and a wonderful array of Lunar New Year inspired dishes, beautifully prepared by our fantastic catering staff. The food was a real highlight of the celebrations and greatly enjoyed by pupils and staff.
Thank you to all who helped make the celebrations so special. We hope the Year of the Horse brings happiness, success and good fortune to you all!
Norham’s School of Sanctuary Committee attended the North Tyneside Young People’s Welcome Summit. Working alongside peers from other schools, they had an engaging and enlightening day thinking about how we can ensure our local community is a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
They represented our school brilliantly and we’re so proud of them!
Newcastle United Foundation are hosting their Premier League Kicks at Howdon Community Hub. This is a perfect place to make new friends and have a game of football!
Our Year 7 pupils have demonstrated fantastic health and safety knowledge during their recent practical workshop sessions.
Pupils showed great care and responsibility by using the correct equipment to accurately mark out their work. They also used coping saws safely and confidently, producing some fantastic quality cutting. We are very proud of their focus, effort and commitment to working safely while developing their practical skills for their future!
We want to share a huge congratulations to all of our KS3 maths pupils who took part in the NSPCC Rocks competition today.
Students in Y7-Y9 battled it out with nearly 4,000 other schools across the country to see who could get the most correct answers in just one hour!
We did exceptionally well with some unbelievable results:
2nd place in the North East of England!
166th out of 3,963 schools - that's the top 5%!
A special shout out to pupils in 8M/Ma1 who were 189th out of 19,000 classes. You were in the top 1% of classes in the whole country!
These guys genuinely smashed it and we are so proud of them.
A huge well done to you all, and a big thank you to the maths team for coordinating this great event.
Year 11 Photography Visit!
Pupils studying GCSE Photography braved the damp, cold northern weather to explore their local surroundings today. They experimented with a range of techniques to support their exam component and showed fantastic engagement with their chosen themes.
In total, pupils covered over 18,000 steps, with some carrying a significant amount of equipment to capture some amazing long-exposure shots, a real demonstration of determination and resilience!
A huge thank you to The Waterfront for welcoming us in during a very rainy lunch and supplying the much needed chippy chips!
A mint day was had by all… who are hopefully now warming up!
Last week, our school came together to remember those lost in the Holocaust in a number of meaningful and reflective ways.
Pupils who are part of our School of Sanctuary delivered thoughtful and informative assemblies, helping to deepen understanding and spark important conversations. Pupils also completed a beautiful independent learning task, which encouraged them to talk with the oldest members of their families, keeping memories alive through shared stories and reflection.
On the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, pupils were given electronic candles to place in their windows, creating a powerful moment of collective remembrance.
The impact of this learning has been deeply felt by both pupils and staff across the school. One incredibly poignant response was this wonderful display created by Maddi in Year 9, which captures the spirit of remembrance, reflection and hope that has shaped the week.
This week, pupils are having assemblies about Holocaust Memorial Day. Our School of Sanctuary committee have been reminding us all why we need to learn lessons from the past in order to secure a brighter future. We’ve also had pupils listening to the live voices of those who have experienced the horrors of genocide.
The theme for this year’s HMD is ‘Bridging Generations’ and we’ve asked our pupils to speak to someone from an older generation so their stories, advice and wisdom will live on into the future. Please speak to your child about this and see how you can help us create a collage of voices from across the generations.
All pupils were also offered a tealight candle to display in their windows at 8pm this evening, as the world marks this important day.
Today, some of our fantastic Year 10 pupils attended the premiere of a brand new musical retelling Macbeth from the Witches’ perspective.
This unique interpretation brought key themes, characters and ideas from their GCSE English Literature text to life in an exciting new way. Pupils also took part in a panel discussion with the show’s creative directors, gaining insight into the creative process and the real-world pathways into theatre and the arts. It was a truly inspiring experience, thoroughly enjoyed by all and a brilliant opportunity to deepen their understanding of Macbeth beyond the classroom.
What do Mr Conway, Mrs Stevenson and Mr James have in common?
They’re all a solid 4 when it comes to how they like their toast!
Whether you’re 1 or like to gamble on a 5, all pupils in Year 7-11 are welcome to come along our FREE breakfast club every morning.
Any pupils who’d like to enjoy a free breakfast with us should make sure they’re in main reception for 8am.
Year 8 Eden pupils have been exploring the Eatwell Guide as part of their food and nutrition studies. Through this investigation, pupils developed their understanding of balanced diets and how to apply nutritional guidance in practical cooking.
They prepared a Pasta Florentina, a dish carefully designed to include appropriate proportions from the Eatwell Guide. The lesson required a high level of practical skill, including safe knife techniques, boiling and combining ingredients effectively.
Pupils demonstrated excellent focus, teamwork and independence while producing a nutritious and well balanced meal. A great example of learning being put into practice!
Today we held a fantastic Focus Day, where pupils took part in lessons that go beyond the usual curriculum and support real-life learning. Pupils developed valuable skills such as money literacy and first aid, as well as making plans for their future pathways.
Year 10 pupils explored work experience opportunities, while our Year 11 pupils visited Tyne Metropolitan College to help prepare them for upcoming applications and next steps.
The day was a great success, with pupils gaining a lot from the experiences on offer. We would also like to say a big thank you to the external providers who came in to deliver engaging and informative sessions, your support made the day possible!
We would like to thank all pupils and our parents and carers for ensuring pupils arrived at school on time and dressed warmly during these cold weather conditions. Your support is very much appreciated.
We would also like to commend our pupils for their excellent behaviour, positive attitude and maturity throughout the day, they have represented the school brilliantly.
We will continue to monitor the weather tomorrow and will inform parents and carers as soon as possible if Period 6 and extra-curricular activities are able to go ahead.
Shout out to Ashleigh for sending in this fabulous photograph of our school.
A reminder to parents and carers to please book your appointment for our upcoming Subject Evening on Wednesday 14th January. This evening is an important opportunity to support pupil progress in their upcoming exams.
If parents or carers are unable to attend, pupils are welcome to book a slot themselves. In these cases, pupils will be allocated a chaperone who will support them during the meeting and help with note taking.
We encourage all families to take part so pupils can get the most out of this valuable opportunity. As always, thank you for your continued support.
We are looking forward to welcoming all pupils back to school after the Christmas break and hope everyone has had a restful holiday. School will begin promptly at 8:25am, pupils are to arrive on time and ready for the day.
Pupils should come to school fully equipped with everything they need for their lessons. If a pupil has PE or Games on their timetable, they are required to attend school wearing their PE kit on that day. Please also ensure that all Chromebooks are brought to school fully charged each morning to support learning throughout the day.
Year 11 pupils will begin working on their externally set assignment for Art & Design and Photography, so it is important that they are prepared and ready to engage in this important stage of their exam coursework.
Information about Year 11 parents’ evening appointments will be shared shortly and we appreciate your continued support with this.
Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to a positive and productive start to the new term for everyone.
As the winter weather continues, we kindly ask parents and carers to ensure that pupils are appropriately dressed for travelling to and from school. With colder temperatures and wet and icy conditions, it is important that pupils wear warm and waterproof clothing to help keep them safe and comfortable on their journey.
Thank you for your continued support in helping pupils arrive at school ready for the day ahead!
We’d like to wish our whole school community a very Merry Christmas!
A new year often brings thoughts of fresh starts, new goals and hopes for the months ahead, big or small. At Norham, we know that everyone begins the year in their own way.
A new year can mean different things to different people. Some may be feeling excited and ready to set new goals, while others may prefer to take things one step at a time. And that’s perfectly okay.
At Norham, we believe every pupil deserves the same care, encouragement and opportunities to thrive, no matter how their year begins.
As a school community, one of our goals for 2026 is simple but powerful, to continue being a place of stability, kindness and support for every pupil. We will keep helping each pupil grow at their own pace, celebrate their successes and feel safe, valued and believed in.
Here’s to gentle new beginnings, meaningful goals and stepping into 2026 together.
We were absolutely overwhelmed by the response to our Christmas Card Competition this year! Pupils from across the whole school took part, submitting a fantastic range of creative entries.

With so many high-quality designs, judging was no easy task! Every entry impressed us and made the decision incredibly difficult!
A huge well done to everyone who entered and thank you for helping to spread so much festive creativity throughout our school.
We’ve had Christmas Jumper Day, Form Class Door Competitions, Year 11 Bongo’s Bingo & Year 7 had a Christmas Party!

Over the past year, our school has been proud to be part of the NS800 celebrations, welcoming artists and creatives into our school to work alongside our pupils. These experiences have inspired creativity, confidence, and a real sense of connection to our town’s rich cultural heritage.
Last night, our Creative Arts Department, along with some of our pupils and their families attended the NS800 parade finale. It was truly amazing, a spectacular celebration of creativity, community, and collaboration. The scale, imagination and atmosphere on display were a real testament to the talent and spirit of our town.

As the end of the term approaches, we wanted just to update parents & carers that pupils will start their Christmas Break at 12.15pm.
Pupils will participate in normal lessons until break time. They will then have an extended break where everyone will be provided with a hot meal before heading to Form Groups for a celebration of the term where they will then be dismissed.
Pupils in Year 8 have been consolidating their IT learning this week. After designing their own school logo, pupils transferred their skills digitally in creating them using Inkscape. Their creativity shone as their designs were converted from paper to screen!
This morning’s sunrise was truly something special, a burst of colours unlike anything we’ve seen before. Our pupils loved getting outside to capture the moment and their photographs were just as stunning as the sky itself!
